The race is organised by Pécsi Sport Nonprofit Zrt. and Lotus Team SE, with the cooperation of the Hungarian Cycling Federation. The start and finish line will be at the steps below the Cathedral, on Janus Pannonius Street, while the race centre will be set up on the Sétatér promenade, next to the Szepesy Ignác statue.
A 1,300-metre city-centre circuit
Competitors will test their skills on a closed, 1,300-metre circuit through the city centre. The route passes several iconic Pécs locations: the field of riders will travel along Janus Pannonius Street, Káptalan Street, Hunyadi Road, Aradi Vértanúk Road, Barbakán Square and Esze Tamás Street.
On certain sections, the cobblestone surface adds a further challenge for the riders, meaning that alongside technical skill and the right tactics, stamina will also be essential.
The race offers several categories, from youth age groups all the way up to adult and masters riders. An amateur, or “Hobby”, category has also been announced for those aged 16 and over, giving a chance to those who don’t race for a club to try their hand as well.
A full day of activity in the city centre
The programme begins in the morning with races for the youth age groups, followed in the afternoon by the junior, masters, hobby and elite categories. The first start is at 10:00, with the last race at 17:00.
One special feature of the criterium is that intermediate sprints are held regularly throughout each race. The first four finishers in a sprint receive 5, 3, 2 and 1 points respectively, while a rider who gains a lap is awarded a further 20 points. The winner of the race is whoever has accumulated the most points by the end. In the longest race, riders in the Elite/U23 category will complete 21 laps.
The organisers are also taking care of riders’ safety: finish-line photography, chip timing and medical standby will all support the running of the race. Pedestrian crossings at access points will be managed by volunteers, while police and civil guards will help direct motor traffic.
Entry and prizes
Entry is available exclusively online and in advance, until 23:59 on 23 August 2026. Entry is free for the U13–U23 age groups, while the entry fee for the Elite, Masters and Hobby categories is HUF 5,000 per person. On-site registration will not be possible.
The top three finishers in each age group will receive medals. Special recognition will also go to the club that enters the most riders: the organisers will present this club with the Vasarely Memorial Cup.
The Vasarely 120 Cycling Criterium Memorial Race on 29 August offers participants an exciting sporting experience and, at the same time, a spectacular programme for the people of Pécs. For one day, the historic city centre will once again become the heart of competitive cycling.
