This year, the Janus Pannonius Museum is also making its way to the Ördögkatlan Festival! In the spirit of the 2026 Vasarely season, everyone is invited to the Kovács Manor House in Kisharsány between 5 and 8 August for a special Vasarely Island – featuring two exhibitions, complex workshop sessions and film screenings for anyone who would like to swap the summer heat for optical illusions, if only for a little while.
The exhibition is open from 10:00.
The first exhibition space showcases works created by students on a special course at the University of Pécs Faculty of Music and Visual Arts, while in the second room, reproductions selected from the collection of the Janus Pannonius Museum allow visitors to explore the most important periods of Victor Vasarely’s oeuvre.
Between 12:00 and 14:00, archival footage can also be viewed, evoking the atmosphere of the opening of the JPM Vasarely Museum in Pécs – which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Between 14:00 and 18:00, a comprehensive museum education workshop awaits all those who feel like creating. The sessions are open to everyone regardless of age, and the JPM’s museum educators will guide participants through a variety of creative techniques and inspiring tasks.

Victor Vasarely believed that art was not the privilege of museums. He wanted his works to reach everyone – in public spaces, on buildings, in everyday environments. He would probably be delighted to know that his works can now be encountered at a festival like this.
On Friday at 14:00, JPM museum experts will share the most fascinating stories behind the Pécs Vasarely collection, talk about optical tricks, and explore how Victor Vasarely’s ideas continue to inspire young artists today. They will show how the fresh op-art works from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pécs connect to the original Vasarely pieces, and draw attention to details that are easy to walk past at first glance.
And if our eyes get a little confused by the end – don’t worry. That’s exactly what Vasarely had in mind!
