VASARELY – SYMPHONY OF GEOMETRY

Vasarely50

On 13 June 2026 at 7:00 PM, the Kodály Centre will host the premiere of Vasarely – Symphony of Geometry, a new musical work by Áron Sebestyén, recipient of the Artisjus and Fonogram Awards.

Created especially for the composition, a unique visual programme invites audiences into the creative world of one of the most influential visual and design artists of the twentieth century through the tools of contemporary visual storytelling.

The visual narrative follows the visionary paths of Vasarely’s artistic thinking, from his work as a graphic designer and his innovative image-making experiments to the world-famous works that established his distinctive artistic language. Animated visual études accompanying the individual movements of the composition feature representative works from the Pécs Vasarely Collection, presenting the most significant visual experiments of the artist’s career. Together, they trace the major directions and discoveries of Vasarely’s artistic programme while highlighting its enduring influence on contemporary visual culture.

The programme is presented through the collaboration of the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts of the University of Pécs and the Janus Pannonius Museum, celebrating three anniversaries at once: the 120th anniversary of Victor Vasarely’s birth, the 50th anniversary of the Vasarely Museum in Pécs, and the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts.

Tickets are available through Jegymester, as well as at the Kodály Centre and the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter.

Vasarely 120 – Contemporary Op-Art Reflections

The Visual Arts Centre at the m21 Gallery in Zsolnay Quarter presents contemporary fine art works that reflect on Vasarely's legacy and 21st-century visual culture through a reinterpretation of op-art. Alongside the contemporary works, the exhibition also features rarely seen and lesser-known pieces by Victor Vasarely.

Claire Vasarely: The Independent Artist

Claire Vasarely, the French artist of Hungarian origin, is being presented for the first time in Hungary in a solo exhibition dedicated to her oeuvre. The exhibition opening on 6 June at the JPM Museum Gallery in Pécs enters into a unique dialogue with the permanent display of the nearby JPM Vasarely Museum: the art of the couple, Victor and Claire Vasarely, can be discovered within a few hundred metres of each other, in a complementary way – even with a discounted joint ticket.
