Vasarely50

The Vasarely Museum in Pécs turns half a century – join us on 6 June to celebrate!

Fifty years ago, the Vasarely Museum opened its doors in Pécs — a place that showed generations of visitors that art can be play, a thought experiment, and a gateway to a new world all at once. On 6 June, we celebrate those fifty years together: the newly reimagined museum, the legacy of Victor and Claire Vasarely, and the intellectual adventure that made Pécs one of Hungary’s most important centres of modern art.

On 6 June, Museum Street transforms into a birthday celebration: where past meets present, op-art meets music, and exhibitions meet the spirit of a summer picnic. The courtyard of the Vasarely Museum and the JPM Museum Gallery across the street will be a space for encounters, creativity and celebration throughout the afternoon and evening.

Vasarely 120 – Contemporary Op-Art Reflections

The Visual Arts Centre at the m21 Gallery in Zsolnay Quarter presents contemporary fine art works that reflect on Vasarely's legacy and 21st-century visual culture through a reinterpretation of op-art. Alongside the contemporary works, the exhibition also features rarely seen and lesser-known pieces by Victor Vasarely.
