In Claire Vasarely’s work, painting, graphic art, fashion and textile design are interconnected fields. Figurative motifs, ornamentation, and forms drawn from nature and from the traditions of textile art all play an important role in her art. Her textile designs and tapestries show clearly how contemporary fine art thinking meets applied design and the particular language of textile in her work. As a textile designer herself, Eszter Söptei draws on this visual thinking as she guides visitors through the exhibition. Pattern, rhythm, geometric and mathematical relationships, and the study of colour and surface are also central to her own creative practice. She is preoccupied with how pattern can step out of the plane and become material, object or space.
